Jacob Flickinger, a military veteran from Quebec, was among seven staff working with World Central Kitchen in April 2024 when Israeli airstrikes hit their humanitarian aid convoy.
The 33-year-old Canadian died two years ago in Gaza while participating in the humanitarian aid mission. The aid group, which distributes food in Gaza, said at the time it had coordinated with the military over the convoy’s movement.
Israel’s military claims that it mistakenly identified the aid workers as armed Hamas operatives but their murder did not amount to criminal misconduct, reports Dylan Robertson at The Canadian Press.
In a written statement, World Central Kitchen said it “strongly condemn the Israeli military prosecutorâs account of the deaths of our seven colleagues,” saying the Israeli militaryâs account of the strike is untrue and shifts the blame.
Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed “outrage” at the findings.
At the time to the murders, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had called their deaths inadvertent and something that âhappens in war.”
