The European Union (EU) is grappling with how to respond to an attempted drone attack last month at a German airport, which officials have blamed on Russia.
The incident occurred Aug. 4 at Germany’s Leipzig Airport, where a drone full of explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane.
Germany accused Russia of being responsible for the attempted attack and ordered a series of measures in response, including shutting down a Russian consulate.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission spoke on the accusations Wednesday, saying, “We will not tolerate it. We stand in full solidarity with Germany.”
EU foreign ministers and member nations are showing support for Germany, and while many are considering more sanctions against Russia, they also remain cautious about escalating tensions with the nuclear-armed nation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Germany of planting the evidence, in order to blame Moscow.
