The US and Poland are working to open a first permanent American military base in the country that could host about 10,000 troops, Poland’s foreign minister said, as Warsaw seeks to bolster its security and Washington looks to reshape its military presence in Europe.

“We want the kind of US presence that would reassure us, but not be threatening to Russia,” Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said at a Council on Foreign Relations event Thursday in New York. “We hope that President Trump keeps the promise that he has made to this effect to our president.”
