Reuters:

Russia has singled out European firms in its latest drive to strip foreign owners of the right to manage their Russian assets, government and company sources said, with the Kremlin accusing the European Union of involvement in the war in Ukraine.

Russia placed the assets of Swiss food giant Nestle, German wholesaler Metro ‌AG, and French retailer Auchan under temporary management this month.

While putting the squeeze on European-owned companies still operating in Russia, Moscow is taking a hands-off approach with American firms.

Is this simply about money and control, or part of a broader strategy to weaken the transatlantic alliance? The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia estimates around 300 US companies still operate in Russia.

DW’s Shannon Redstall spoke to Christopher Walker, Vice President at the Center for European Policy Analysis, for his take on the development.
