Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered remarks to global business leaders at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto, kicking off Canada’s first-ever investment summit.
“Tomorrow, something remarkable will happen. The world’s largest investors, managing over $120 trillion of assets, will come to peer into our shop window, because the world is looking at Canada differently,” PM Carney said as his government seeks to increase the economy and its trade allies amid tensions with the U.S.
PM Carney has set what experts consider an ambitious goal of “catalyzing” $1 trillion in investments in Canada over five years.
Hundreds of global and domestic investors with trillions of dollars of assets under management will descend on downtown Toronto on Sept. 14 and 15.
The investment event is co-organized by the Prime Minister’s Office, with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Public Sector Pension Investments, two of the country’s largest asset managers.
