The US went ahead early on Tuesday with a decision to ban nearly $1.4 billion (US$1bn) worth of imports from Canada, including alcoholic beverages, dairy byproducts, molasses, and motorcycles, reports the Associated Press.
The ban amounts to barely a ripple in $1.25 trillion (US$880bn) worth of annual two-way trade between the two neighbours. But it also marks another ratcheting up of Trump’s second-term trade war with the US’ longtime ally and trading partner.
