Trump’s latest trade moves would have minor impact on Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says the U.S. president’s tariffs remain on some key Saskatchewan exports, including honey and wooden furniture, but Trump;s executive orders signed Tuesday would drop tariffs on other exports, like road salt.

Trump’s orders are set to take effect later this month and would also ban imports of certain Canadian goods, including motorcycles, some dairy products, and alcoholic beverages.

Premier Moe says even with the new executive orders, about 94% of Saskatchewan’s exports remain tariff free.

Alberta Premier Smith vacation in the U.S as we fight a trade war with them

What Canadian politician would vacation in the U.S right now, just as we are locked into an ugly trade war with our southern neighbour?

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, of course.

Last week she travelled to Tennessee, Nashville in particular, for a vacation and to glean tips on how Calgary can become Nashville North, a country music hub that attracts people from around the world, just like the Calgary Stampede.

Mixing business and pleasure, she met with some officials in the tourism department as well as the head of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce. It seems like an odd choice of issues to focus on with less than two months until the Alberta separation referendum.

The far-right party state-election win in Germany is a dark day for the west

The far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) narrowly failed to secure an outright majority in state elections in Saxony-Anhalt. But nobody should take comfort from that. The party still won by a landslide. Decades of far-right election gains have made them seem normal to the point where only the biggest victories are deemed newsworthy. But 44% of the vote for a party that is officially classified as “extreme right” is not normal. It is a black day for European democracy, even if it occurs in a small east German state.

PQ would hold a referendum even without a majority

Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon said he would push ahead with a referendum on Quebec sovereignty even without a majority government.

The PQ leader made the comments while campaigning in Quebec City, with less than a month to go before the provincial election on Oct. 5.

“Whether we’re in a minority or majority, that commitment doesn’t change,” he said on Tuesday.

Trump’s latest attack on Bombardier has spooked some investors

Bombardier shares fell 7% to C$293.49 on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) on Tuesday morning before regaining some later in the day. It’s the first trading day since the president floated a ban on Bombardier jet sales in the U.S. over the Labour Day weekend.

Analysts say it’s not clear what legal mechanism this American administration would use to stop the company from exporting into the U.S. Bombardier jets are cleared for sale in the U.S. under certifications obtained by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Ban on imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank

Canada, France and Britain are introducing a ban on imports from from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, joining Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium, which are taking similar action. Other nations, including Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Portugal are considering similar restrictions.

In a joint statement, Prime Minister Mark Carney, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and French President Emmanuel Macron said “systematic settlement expansion in the West Bank” poses a threat to the possibility of a two-state solution that would see the establishment of a Palestinian homeland alongside Israel.

It’s about ensuring that no other country can determine our future, and that we can live how we want to live.

The Canadian government has a plan, we’re on track, and we’re just getting started.

A small slice of the Canadian right, the part that has spent a year and a half insisting Trump is not really a threat or wrong in his insults, have revelled in Trump’s mockery of our country with an implicIt “we deserve it” attitude. Canada is a woke, weak, poor and pathetic country in the minds of some of these people that deserve what its getting.

There is an emerging “blame Canada” camp amongst some conservatives. They seem to think that somehow Prime Minister Mark Carney, because he responded to Trump’s tariffs with our own tariffs is responsible for starting this trade war. They argue that because the Liberals  have spent the last while blocking Canada’s resource sector, pushing jobs and investment out of the country, and underinvesting in our military that Trump is right to mock, insult and attack us.

Russia shuts German consulate n St. Petersburg

September 7, 2026 /

The German consulate in St. Petersburg, Russia must close by September 18, in response to Berlin’s recent “unfriendly actions,” Russia’s foreign ministry announced Monday.

While the embassy and consular services in Moscow remain open, the consulate in the northwest of the country must cease all operations and all staff must leave Russia by the specified date.
